Tyler Perry Becomes the First Black Man to Own a Major Movie Studio in the U.S.
Hollywood's elite came out to Atlanta to celebrate Tyler Perry and the unveiling of his movie studio lot Tyler Perry Studios.
The man of many titles including director, screenwriter, producer, and actor can now add owner and history-maker to that list. Perry is now the first African-American to own a major movie studio in the United States of America.
The lot is 330 acres and was once a confederate army base. Joining him to celebrate this occasion were stars Oprah Winfrey, Cicely Tyson, and Spike Lee only to name a few.
Producer Ava DuVernay was in attendance and gave us a tour of the studio on her Instagram page.
The lot holds 12 sound stages each dedicated to a Black person who has made strides in the entertainment industry such as Oprah Winfrey, Will Smith, Halle Berry and the late Diahann Carroll.
